Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, Coventry, until 5th June 2011
Did aliens build the pyramids? What was the mummy's curse? Were the Egyptians obsessed with death? All these questions and more can be answered at the new temporary exhibition about ancient Egypt at the Herbert Art Gallery.
Secret Egypt contains nearly two hundred objects, some of which are on loan from nationally important collections, including the British Museum, the Ashmolean and a mummy and coffin from The Manchester Museum.
This exhibition challenges some of the enduring myths about ancient Egypt that are perpetuated through films, books and other popular media. It invites the public visitor to look at a range of archaeological evidence to re-consider what they understand about this remarkable civilisation.
